- Changeling-Kayra, in her wedding dress, looks at her hands. She begins her confession.
Changeling: "I'm not the girl you think I am.
I mean - I AM still me - I always have been.
But I'm not... TECHNICALLY a girl.
Or even.. HUMAN.
Sigh..."
- A flashback. The changeling, an animated doll made of mud and sticks with button eyes and leaves and twigs for hair, is shown wearing the guise of a cute little girl - the real/original Kayra. She holds her unsuspecting new mother's hand as they walk home. Meanwhile, the original Kayra holds an enormous lollipop as she walks with Nanny Muk, hand in hand, into the woods.
The changling speaks in captions:
"I'm a CHANGELING."
"A... THING, built by a witch out of mud and twigs."
"She enchanted me to look like a person..."
"And swapped me with a HUMAN BABY."
3.Changeling-Kayra sits in front of her mirror, gripping the sides of her head. She's looking stressed.
Changeling: "I've been living as a human my entire life. Just trying to seem NORMAL. I didn't even know what I am until a few weeks ago."
- Changeling-Kayra closes her eyes and starts to cry next to her mirror.
Changeling: "This face you fell in love with... it's not the REAL me. It's an illusion.
I've spent my whole life hiding who I really am... From you, my friends... even my PARENTS.
And it's EXHAUSTING."
- She takes Jonathan's hand, still not looking directly at him, tears running down her cheeks. The back of Jonathan's head is foregrounded.
Changeling: "I know it means we're finished... but I need you to know the REAL me."
Jonathan: "Ye gods..."
- Jonathan hugs Changeling-Kayra from behind and grins. Her eyes go wide and blank, not knowing how to process his answer.
Jonathan: "What a relief! I was worried it might be something SERIOUS!"
