Last Straw

1. Jonathan rushes into changeling-Kayra's dressing room, a worried look on his face. "Kayra" gets up from the dressing table, nervous but happy to see him. As usual, an illusion disguises her as a human woman.

Changeling: "Jonathan! You came!"

A loud "URRGH!" comes from behind the door.

Changeling: "...What's happening out there?"

Jonathan: "It doesn't matter. Are YOU all right?"

2. Jonathan takes his bride in his arms. She accepts the embrace, but she doesn't look happy.

Changeling: "Better, now that you're here. But..."

Jonathan: "Darling, what's wrong? You know you can tell me."

Changeling: "Can I?"

3. Jonathan takes changeling-Kayra's hands. She turns her head and looks away.

Changeling: "I've been TRYING to tell you for AGES. But I could never get it out. I guess that's because I know.. once YOU knew.. it would be OVER."

Changeling, whispered: "And I don't WANT it to be over."

4. Jonathan looks worried now, and holds his bride's hand in both of his. She turns away, tears in her eyes, and gestures dramatically.

Changeling: "But I can't carry this secret into our MARRIAGE. So I have to tell you... even though it means you'll leave."

5. Jonathan pulls changeling-Kayra back and looks at her, holding both her hands. She faces him, but won't make eye contact.

Jonathan: "My love, there is nothing you could tell me that would make me want to leave. Whatever it is, we will get through it together."

Changeling: "You say that NOW... sigh... all right, here goes..."

6. Close-up on changeling-Kayra's face. Her eyes are closed tightly, and she's almost shouting, with tears running down her face. The pose is reminiscent of a 1960s romance comic.

Changeling: "The Kayra you know... the girl you fell in love with... isn't REAL."
