Changeling: "You thought WHAT?!" Jonathan: "I'm sorry, darling. I didn't mean to suggest that the huge secret about your true nature that you've been keeping hidden your entire life isn't SERIOUS. It's just..."
Changeling: "You KNEW." Jonathan: "I knew." Changeling: "And you didn't say anything?!"
Jonathan: "I wanted to give you the chance to tell me yourself. It seemed important." Changeling: "I really wanted to. But it was so hard." Jonathan: "It's all right, my love." Changeling: "But I worked so hard to hide it... How did you know??"
Jonathan: "Your father, of course. When I told him I wanted to ask you to marry me, he poured me a drink--" Changeling: "Oh gods - my DAD knows?! ..Wait - what about my mother??"
Jonathan: "Your mother? Oh, gods, could you imagine how she'd react? No, she's blissfully ignorant. Probably best she stay that way." Changeling: "Yeah. And this doesn't... SCARE you? Marrying a... MOSNTER?"
Jonathan: "Darling, a lot of things scare me. Frogs... wizards... your axe-wielding friend outside... Your mother... But never YOU." Changeling: "The illusion may fade someday. You'll find yourself with an ugly bundle of STICKS for a wife." Jonathan: "I fell in love with the beautiful person BENEATH the illusion. And I will love your real face, whatever it looks like."
Jonathan: "So... do you still want this? If you're not ready, we don't have to --" Changeling: "No -- I'm ready. Let's get married." |
