Faux Paws

1. Maki (Tabaxi girl) lies down on the couch with her head in Tamilda's lap, allowing (or rather, expecting) Tamilda to give her scritches. This level of intimacy in a person she just met is confusing for Tamilda, but given that Maki is a Tabaxi (cat-person), it's not that weird for her.

Maki: "And my parents were invited because they own the theatre, so of COURSE they made me come. Because seeing a rich guy marry an actress will somehow give me "Culture". You know what PARENTS are like..."

Tamilda: "Heh... sure." (She doesn't. Not really.)

2. Maki turns over, head still in Tamilda's lap, and points at her new friend.

Maki: "I haven't seen you around. Did your parents drag you along 'cause they know the groom?"

Tamilda: "Actually, I'm here with Granny Dis--er, my granny. .. My parents are dead... I live on my own."

3. Maki jumps up and gets right in Tamilda's face. Tamilda blushes in surprise.

Maki: "What?? THAT'S SO COOL!"

4. Maki is embarrassed as she realizes what she just said. She grimaces.

Maki: "I, uh, meant the living on your own thing. Not the dead parents thing."

Tamilda: "Yeah."

5. Maki tries to dig herself out of this pit she's constructed. Tamilda finds it amusing.

Maki: "I mean, sometimes I wish MY parents were dead. .. but, like, not REALLY. Y'know?"

6. Sweating but grinning, Maki tries to escape the situation with a distraction. She grabs Tamilda's hand and drags her away in a hurry.

Maki: "Hey, let's stop saying embarrassing things and go sneak some drinks from the bar!"
